The mission of DCH Preschool is to foster the growth and development of young children by providing a play-based, developmentally appropriate, and nurturing environment that will pave the way for a lifelong love of learning.
The DCH Preschool has a professional staff dedicated to providing creative learning and play while overseeing the physical safety and emotional and intellectual growth of the children.
We are committed to building a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. We seek to honor and value diversity in our community and curriculum, drawing from books and other classroom materials that represent the diversity of our school, community, and world. In our pursuit of excellence, we are continually learning, evaluating, and adapting our practices. We welcome input from our families and staff.
We serve children 15 months old through 5 years.

Our program is designed to provide a stimulating, creative, and supportive environment that is aligned with state standards. Children are encouraged to grow at their own pace while developing feelings of security, success, and self-confidence.
The teaching staff uses themes inspired by the children to develop an emergent curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and focuses on the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
Each classroom’s daily schedule is planned to meet the needs of the children within the group. All groups offer a variety of quiet and active play options to ensure a balanced program.
Free Choice: Play options include dramatic play, small manipulatives (puzzles, Legos, construction toys), art activities, sensory activities (play dough, sand and water play), science experimentation, cooking projects, large muscle equipment and books. Play clothes are encouraged.
Group Time: Group time includes sharing, stories, musical experiences, and games. Children are encouraged to express themselves, to listen, and to cooperate in taking turns. The duration and content varies depending on the age group.
Snacks & Lunch: Mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks are scheduled in each classroom daily, in addition to lunch. Families provide all food for their children and the DCH Preschool provides water. The DCH Preschool is a peanut and tree nut free school.
Outside Activities: Weather permitting, children have the opportunity to play outside on the playground daily. Opportunities for climbing, running, swinging, and sand play are available.
Music & Movement: Music and movement are a regular part of the preschool curriculum. The teaching staff includes singing, dance, and movement in the classroom curriculum. In addition, the program includes monthly visits from early childhood specialists running enrichment activities.
